Put your hand on a 1000 thread count duvet cover and the first thing you notice is how smooth it is. The threads are packed closely together, so the fabric feels dense, cool to the touch and slightly heavier than a standard cotton sheet. It drapes over the bed instead of sitting stiffly on top. Many of the sets in this collection use a sateen weave, which adds a soft sheen, and most are made from Egyptian cotton.
It can be, but the number is not the whole story. Thread count only tells you how many threads sit in a square inch of fabric. A very high number can also come from thin, twisted threads that add little real quality. What matters more is the cotton itself. Long fibres, like Egyptian cotton, spin into a smooth, strong yarn that feels soft and lasts through plenty of washes. So look at the fibre and the weave first, and treat 1000TC as a sign of a dense, silky finish rather than a guarantee.
You do not have to pick a plain white set to get this level of fabric. The range includes plain bedding with contrast borders, hemstitch edges and twin stripes, as well as paisley, floral and printed designs. If you like detail, there are jacquard sets and embroidered bedding in butterfly, lotus, rose and bow patterns. A few sets add lace or ruffles for a softer, more traditional look. Colours run from white and cream to blush, blue, green and black.
Dense fabric needs a little patience. Wash it at 30 to 40 degrees on a gentle cycle and do not overload the drum, so the water can move through the fabric properly. Skip fabric softener, as it can coat the fibres and dull the smooth finish. Because the weave is tight, it takes longer to dry, so make sure it is fully dry before you put it away.
