Most patterned bedding is printed. The colour sits on top of the fabric, and over many washes it can soften or wear. Jacquard works the other way round. The pattern is woven into the cloth on a special loom, so it is part of the fabric itself. Run your hand over a jacquard duvet cover and you can feel the design as well as see it. Most of our jacquard bedding sets are made from Egyptian cotton, and a few use silk or satin blends for extra shine.
The range goes well beyond plain damask. There are geometric and stripe designs for a modern bedroom, and floral stems, butterflies, trellis and scroll patterns for a softer look. A few designs are bolder, such as leopard, marble and safari prints. Colours run from greige, ivory and dove grey to lavender, blush, olive and emerald with gold. Tone on tone designs are subtle and change with the light, while contrast colours stand out more. Some of the sets also have embroidery on top of the woven pattern.
Jacquard usually costs more than plain or printed bedding, because weaving a pattern takes more time and more thread. What you get is texture, weight and a duvet cover that looks finished without any styling. It drapes well and tends to look smart even when the bed is not perfectly made. The trade off is that it can feel heavier than plain cotton, so if you sleep hot you may prefer one of the lower thread counts. Thread counts in this collection run from 600TC to 1500TC.
A little care goes a long way. Wash your jacquard bedding inside out on a gentle cycle at 30 to 40 degrees, and skip bleach and fabric softener. Take it out of the dryer while it is still slightly damp so it does not crease hard. If you need to iron, use a low heat on the reverse side, or hang it and use a steamer. Keep rings, zips and velcro away from the cover, as the raised weave can catch. Every order comes with free UK delivery and 30 day returns.
